Projects supported with the Rapid Response Grantmaking Program 2014

Women's Fund in Georgia in partnership with the Urgent Action Fund (UAF) is pleased to announce the Rapid Response Grantmaking (RRG) Program, which provides timely small grants to support strategic interventions that take advantage of opportunities to advance women's human rights anywhere in the world. Such opportunities arise when an unexpected event - positive or negative - creates a situation in which rapid intervention can have a significant impact.

 

 6 Rapid Response Grants were awarded during the year 2014.

 

Supported Initiatives:

 

1. Applicant: Women for Freedom

Project title: Police Misconduct towards Sex-workers

Region: Tbilisi

Duration: 3 months

Grant amount: 2000 USD

Project involves encouraging active participation of women human rights defenders, politicians and health care institutions to work on the problems affecting sex workers right and to change existing negative attitudes of society towards sex workers.  The project involves monitoring the services NGO “Tanadgoma” is offering to sex-worker. Also, in order to reveal the violence committed towards sex-worker, project will conduct in-depth interviews with sex-workers to draft action plans for presenting to the international experts. Within the project, street action will be conducted banning use of electroshocks.

 

 2. Applicant: Consent

Project title: Need of Juridical Assistance
Region: Tbilisi

Duration: 2 months

Grant amount: 2000 USD

Marina Pochkhua is in urgent need of a professional lawyer who can provide sufficient defense for her at the court.

 

3. Applicant: Women's Rights Community Initiative of Georgia

Project title: Support Iraqi Yazidi women

Region: Tbilisi

Duration: 3 months

Grant amount: 2000 USD

The project aims to mobilize resources to support Yazidi women who became refugees after fleeing Iraq. The project includes providing urgent humanitarian aid and sufficient psychological support for these Iraqi Yazidi refugee women staying in Georgia.

 

4. Applicant: Samtskhe-Javakheti Democratic Women's Society, Women for Regional Development, Association of Women Farmers of Kakheti, Tanaziari

Project title:  Femicide - Austere Reality

Region: Akhaltiskhe, Guria, Kakheti, Samegrelo

Project duration: 1 month

Grant amount:  1998 USD

Project aims to organize a protest - “Stand Up Against Femicide” within 16 Days of Activism Campaign, in four regional towns of Georgia (Akhaltiskhe, Ozurgeti, Zugdidi, Chalaubani) as a respond to the increasing number of femicide case in Georgia.

 

5. Applicant: Anti-violence Network of Georgia

Project title: Refer Single mothers Legal Status in Legislation

Region: Tbilisi

Duration: 2 months

Grant amount: 2000 USD

Project aims to refer the single mother's legal status in Georgian legislation. The organization has already prepared law amendment document. In terms of project there are included several official and private meetings with parliament and committee members, discuss over the amendment document and then review it at plenary meeting.

 

6. Applicant: Women's Initiative Supporting Group

Project title: Support Organizational Needs

Region: Tbilisi

Duration: 1 month

Grant amount: 2000 USD

Regarding to the International day against homophobia and transphobia, project aims to held photo exhibition in parliament building, in case of rejection the venue, the exhibition will be re-located to the other alternative venue (office of ombudsman).
