Open Door Grants Program 2017

10 grants were issued in frames of the given program:

 

1. Applicant: Kutaisi Cultural Youth Center

Project Title: Theatric Performance Dedicated to 100th Anniversary of Kato Mikeladze

Region: Kutaisi

Project Duration: 2 months

Requested Budget: 1280 USD

The idea of the project was to make a performance in frames of the Feminist Festival. Important moments of three women’s biographies – Kato Mikeladze, Ekaterine Gabashvili and Barbare jorjadze were shown through mimodrama.

 

2. Applicant: Ida Bakhturidze

Project Title: Barbare Jorjadze Feminist Cabinet in National Library

Region: Tbilisi

Project Duration: 4 months

Requested Budget: 5000 USD

The project was about arranging a feminist cabinet in the National Library in the name of Barbare Jorjadze.

 

3. Applicant: Aia Beraia

Project Title: Hegemonic Masculinity and Nationalism in Post Soviet Georgia

Region: Tbilisi

Project Duration: 5 months

Requested Budget: 2500 USD

The aim of the project was strengthening feminist society, empowering transgender and gender non-binary persons, creating basis for trans/queer feminism. A research was conducted in frames of the project, the topic of which was the connection of masculinity and nationalism in post-soviet Georgia, the development of hegemonic masculinity and its contemporary condition in national and nationalistic discourses. 

 

4. Applicant: Nana Gabaidze

Project Title: Women Rights and Environment

Region: Marneuli, Village Khikhani

Project Duration: 4 months

Requested Budget: 685 USD

The project foresaw the installation of garbage bins in the village Khikhani and ensuring the systematic taking of the garbage out of the village.

 

5. Applicant: Tekle Machavariani

Project Title: Short fiction film “Selfie with the Oven”

Region: Tbilisi

Project Duration: 5 months

Requested Budget: 2500 USD

The aim of the project was to help middle-aged people with difficulty to adapt to modern life with a short film 'Selfie with the Oven', to convince them that in order to adapt they need humor and self-irony. Also, show young people the challenges of parents in different perspective, how difficult it is to call the rhythm of the modern world. The film is directed by Irina Javakhidze.

 

6. Applicant: Ekaterine Skhiladze

Project Title: Travel Grant to Attend the CSW

Region: Tbilisi

Project Duration: 3 months

Requested Budget: 5000 USD

 

7. Applicant: Lia Ukleba

Project Title: Invisible Women

Region: Kutaisi

Project Duration: 2 months

Requested Budget: 2500 USD

The aim of the project was to articulate women’s rights and problems related to their oppression in art. The project foresaw meeting women from Tchiatura mine and Kutaisi sewing factory, recording their work at home and at work, listening to their problems and creating a short film out of it, as well as arranging an exhibition using working tools and other things.

 

8. Applicant: Salome Tsopurashvili

Project Title: Sexuality in Georgian Women Writers’ Work in 1921-1990

Region: Tbilisi

Project Duration: 4 months

Requested Budget: 700 USD

The project foresaw to implement archive works together with the writer and gender researcher Tamta Melashvili, analyzing the materials and forming it into a publication article. The texts of women writers from the beginning of Soviet era till 1990 were overseen. The objective of the research was to discover the repressed sides of those women, explore their self-expression forms and analyze their attitudes towards their sexuality, experiences and self-perception.

 

9. Applicant: Tekle Kveladze

Project Title: Feminist Reading in the Writers’ House

Region: Tbilisi

Project Duration: 5 months

Requested Budget: 2 495USD

The aim of the project was to popularize modern feminist literature, introducing women authors to the readers and re-discovering Georgian phenomenon of women’s narratives. Besides this the project supports the process of re-establishing the forgotten tradition of public reading and making it a part of modern literature process.

 

10. Applicant: Hepa+

Project Title: Research of the Needs of Transgender Persons

Region: Tbilisi

Project Duration: 6 months

Requested Budget: 2500 USD

The aims of the project: researching the needs of transgender persons in terms of syringe program and advocating the results with HIV/AIDS program policy and advocacy working group; re-training the social workers, voluntary consultants in Hepa+ and risk reduction specialists on providing consultations adapted to transgender persons’ needs.
